Last night, while re-embedding the video on my post Favorite Movies: All That Jazz, I found myself obliged to revise and substantially expand the original text. To back up a step: yes, I did say “re-embedding the video.” As a consequence of my decision to shift the handling of photos and videos here on C&B from the Floatbox Plus plugin to the simpler Highslide 4 WordPress plugin, I have to go back and re-embed all the videos in my old posts. I could go into detail about why this is necessary, but I’d like to keep my readers awake if possible. My point—and I do have one—is that since writing the original All That Jazz post I have notched at least one more viewing of the movie, not to mention three and a half more years of overall insight (for better or worse). So you see, my hand was forced. Go check it out—even if you don’t care what I wrote and you just want to see the awesome video of the song-and-dance number.

Some of you may have noticed that comments on recent posts have gone missing. If you haven’t noticed, I sure as hell have. Posts since November 2009 that had comments still say that they do in the meta-link at the top of the post (e.g. “2 comments,” etc.), but those comments just don’t appear at the end of the post.
I don’t know what the hell is wrong. At the moment, I cannot summon the fortitude to spend more time slogging through the WordPress support forums and troubleshooting possible fixes. I’ve just recently done many hours of that after upgrading to PHP 5, and the resultant day and a half when all my blog content was AWOL.
If it’s at all reassuring, I can tell recent commenters this: Read the rest of this entry »
As a new incentive for my readers to post comments, I have incorporated a gravatars plugin into my commenting interface. The comments from this old post of mine gives an idea of what it looks like.
A gravatar is an avatar – that is, a small picture you use to represent yourself – that appears next to your posts or comments on any site that uses the gravatar service. On the official site they say the term gravatar stands for “globally recognized avatar.” I suppose that makes sense, but I prefer to think of a gravatar as an avatar imbued with a particular aura of prestige and authority.
Now all I need to do is hope you guys sign up and make your own gravatars (it’s free). I personally get a kick out of Read the rest of this entry »
Hopefully you’ll notice that I’ve done some sprucing up here at C&B. Specifically, I’d like to direct your attention to the new About page. Inspirational credit is due to Lorelle VanFossen, whose post hit me like a cattle prod.
I’ve tried to include both user-friendliness and a bit of “zazz” with the column of pretty feed buttons in the sidebar. If you haven’t yet learned about feeds, I recommend doing so – there are plenty of simple and helpful explanations available. I find feeds to be extremely convenient (and, of course, tasty). I also opened the C&B up to social bookmarking sites, hence the little row of buttons at the bottom of this page… although I must admit that what happened to Evolving Trends has me a little paranoid.
As before, any constructive feedback about the About page or anything else on the blog is welcomed. In fact, I might even welcome destructive feedback – it could give me something to mock. Hey, you never know where good content might come from.

If this is your first visit to C&B you may be wondering, “Who the hell is this guy, and why does he have a blog?” It’s a fair question, so I’ve dedicated an entire page to answering it: check out
