Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be stalkers. Especially if your babies are dumber than a box of rocks.

Via the L.A. Times:

A trial began this week in the case of a man accused of stalking and making threatening phone calls to a Huntington Beach police detective.

Brian Dopler, 27, is charged with felony criminal threats and stalking of the detective between Jan. 8 and Feb. 10, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Look, I understand that stalking isn’t exactly a logic-driven crime… but if you can’t at least pick your spots better than that, you really should get out less often. Read the rest of this entry »


Prepare to (not) be shocked: apartment hunting sucks. I am currently undergoing my semi-yearly reminder of this universal truth, and it never seems to get any less sucky. Either that, or I just get older and crankier.

At least the Google Maps “Street View” feature has got my back. Check it out – this photo of an apartment building was on the Craigslist ad for a vacant unit:

I thought, “Hmm… looks like it could be nice. Or at least OK, anyway.”

I’ve gotten in the habit of checking possible future addresses in Google Street View because it shows what a place looks like in context with the rest of the block.  For the building in question, that context was… rather revealing:

You gotta hand it to Rod Blagojevich. Here we all were thinking Sarah Palin was surely the dumbest state governor in the U.S., when all of a sudden… well, you know.

The Illinois governor’s arrest has been a slow softball down the middle for the news media. No, scratch that – it’s been more like TWO softballs down the middle. The first was the revelation of his corruption itself; the second and more shocking was how much he sucked at being corrupt. The guy just has no gift for graft.

Yet even with this fat pitch lobbed at them, a few conservative commentators have merely fouled it off. Read the rest of this entry »
