God loves babies, and the women they rode in on. Pure and simple. Too simple, as a matter of fact.
Andrew Sullivan included this image earlier today in a post titled “The Cult of Palin”:
The core and calculated meme behind her appeal to the Christianist base — allegedly carrying a child to term when others might not — is already being propagated.
I’m not sure why he says “already,” since they’ve been trumpeting about this for quite awhile. Nevertheless, the point stands: they’re lionizing Palin for carrying to term a Down’s Syndrome child when she was 44 rather than having an abortion. That was the choice she made.
Which is exactly the point: it was a choice. And look, now they’re even using the c-word in the title of their little straight-to-video propaganda movies. I wonder if the old Christianist dinosaurs like James Dobson and Pat Robertson are pissed off. They could have just as easily called it Sarah’s Child, but they didn’t. Surprising that they missed that last opportunity to make it even more soft-soapy and cloying. Personally, I would have gone with Fetus for Jesus.
I mean sakes alive, wouldja look at that poster? Tonight on the Wonderful World of Disney: unplanned pregnancy! You gotta love that pristine winter landscape, although it makes me wonder if she’s waiting for an answer from God or from Santa. Hey look, it’s Dick Van Patten! Hey Dick, is it OK to get an abortion if you already have a certain number of kids, like say, eight?
Hang on… look what she’s doing with her hands. I’m trying to remember where I’ve seen that before… oh, yeah! I’ve got it now:

What can I say? If it wasn’t so damn relevant I wouldn’t keep linking to it.
