Prepare to (not) be shocked: apartment hunting sucks. I am currently undergoing my semi-yearly reminder of this universal truth, and it never seems to get any less sucky. Either that, or I just get older and crankier.
At least the Google Maps “Street View” feature has got my back. Check it out – this photo of an apartment building was on the Craigslist ad for a vacant unit:

I thought, “Hmm… looks like it could be nice. Or at least OK, anyway.”
I’ve gotten in the habit of checking possible future addresses in Google Street View because it shows what a place looks like in context with the rest of the block. For the building in question, that context was… rather revealing:

If this is your first visit to C&B you may be wondering, "Who the hell is this guy, and why does he have a blog?" It's a fair question, so I've dedicated an entire page to answering it: check out
Funny.
Our apartment search engine has google street views attached to the search results, so we get all kinds of comments about this scene or that scene. Good luck in your search for the new pad.

Hi Jason,
It’s a good start for your apartment search engine to have Google street view integrated with the search results. The interface is slick, and pretty user-friendly. What keeps me from using your site as opposed to PadMapper is that I have a dog, and your site doesn’t offer filtering based on pet requirements.
Yarp. Just another day in the ‘hood.
Man, what photographic timing…
Hey Derek, PadMapper dev here, thanks for the mention! Any suggestions for improvements? (What do you find that Cazoodle is better at/for?)
Best,
Eric
Hi Eric,
I like how cazoodle gives equal screen real estate to the rundown of listings and the map of those listings. When looking for an apartment, the listings themselves and the details thereof are what’s most important. On PadMapper, it seems like you give more emphasis to the map than the pads.
