@Tonya: No, the RIAA had a lot of influence over Apple’s DRM policies – a lot more than they apparently had over Amazon, who never laced their MP3s with DRM. So what gives? Is Amazon just that much more powerful than Apple?

From a consumer point of view, it doesn’t really matter who is to blame for the iTunes DRM situation. The solution is the same: buy your downloads from Amazon and avoid the whole thing.
