Who the Hell I Am
Hopefully you’ll notice that I’ve done some sprucing up here at C&B. Specifically, I’d like to direct your attention to the new About page. Inspirational credit is due to Lorelle VanFossen, whose post hit me like a cattle prod.
I’ve tried to include both user-friendliness and a bit of “zazz” with the column of pretty feed buttons in the sidebar. If you haven’t yet learned about feeds, I recommend doing so – there are plenty of simple and helpful explanations available. I find feeds to be extremely convenient (and, of course, tasty). I also opened the C&B up to social bookmarking sites, hence the little row of buttons at the bottom of this page… although I must admit that what happened to Evolving Trends has me a little paranoid.
As before, any constructive feedback about the About page or anything else on the blog is welcomed. In fact, I might even welcome destructive feedback – it could give me something to mock. Hey, you never know where good content might come from.
Glad to help, as always, and it’s wonderful to know “you”. I love what you wrote on your About page and may use it soon in an example of how to write one, with your permission, of course. I especially love the justification at the bottom for your “real job”. Well said!
Keep up the great work.
Awshucks. :”)
Lorelle, consider yourself permitted. Not only is your blog chock full of informative wordpressy goodness, but you’ve just started a separate genealogy blog, and your latest post references Fresh Air. You couldn’t have geek-baited me better if you tried!
Stay tuned to more about genealogy blogs. I’m working on a huge series that will last MONTHS about building one. It’s much harder than I ever imagined. And involves ALL the aspects of blogging and geekiness. Consider yourself warned.
And I’ll probably hit you up with a few questions on genealogy, too, since you have a lot more experience than me. Have you thought about setting up a separate genealogy blog to highlight all the history your family has gathered? Or did I miss it on your about page?
I missed a lot of US joys and privileges living overseas for so long and Terry Gross was one of them. I was thrilled when the Internet bandwidth finally widened enough so I could listen via the Internet. Now I can take her with me wherever I go.
I’ve thought and thought and thought about setting up a separate genealogy blog. I decided that for now, I’m trying to get a complete handle on running *one* blog before I try to sustain two. I need to be posting more here. I’d like to eventually start with getting my genealogy database its own home on the web, even without a blog wrapped around it. Right now, all I can point people to is my most recent uploads of it on Rootsweb’s WorldConnect project and/or Gencircles.
How much do I love Fresh Air? I hear so many fascinating interviews on that show that I could blog about, I’ve actually worried that it might be *too* good a source of writing material – this could end up becoming just a Terry Gross fanblog. Something tells me that if that happened, it would hurt rather than help my chances of ever getting be a guest on that show.
